Welcome!

We are a group of senior high school students studying from the Philippines. We are on our journey of sharing our struggles, problems, and challenges during the declaration of Coronavirus or Covid-19 as an epidemic in March 11, 2020.

What is Covid-19?

According to WHO, “Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.”. It said that Coronavirus is an infectious disease that mutated from SARS and is said to have originated from bats sourced in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, a province of The Republic of China. Coronavirus is believed to have made human contact from one of the wet-markets of the said capital, even though some people claim that said animals weren’t being sold in the area during the time of the outbreak.

Although most people from the upcoming centuries should know, an article from WHO (Impact of COVID-19 on people’s livelihoods, their health and our food systems, Joint statement by ILO, FAO, IFAD and WHO) states that “The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating: tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, currently estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to 132 million by the end of the year.”, describing the poor state of the economy, rising poverty, and the huge disruption of both food distribution and production.

Not only was the food systems affected, due to the need for quarantine and curfews, many people suffered from the lack of income, and socials tensions rose to the point where underlying flaws of most government that went unnoticed for the past couple years or even decades rose to the surface, adding riots and protests to the already dramatic effects of the pandemic.

The said quarantine not only caused earlier mentioned scenarios, but it also caused establishments to resort to unconventional methods of operating, few examples being the food industry that ended up heavily relying in deliveries and online methods of transactions.

The most important effect of these to us students is when the whole world instead of going in an academic freeze, continued through the heavy use of computers, internet, and electronics. This decision of the world pushed learning and studying to previously unconventional methods, making us rely on the internet and computers more than before.
